Jensen McDermott and Dustin Carstens took the top spots in their weight classes to lead the Gardner Edgerton High School Blazer wrestling team to a second place finish at the Eastern Kansas League meet last weekend. McDermott took the league championship in the 113-pound weight division, and Carstens earned the gold in the 170-pound weight division.
Six other Blazers on the varsity team and two junior varsity squad members placed at league event at Blue Valley Southwest High School.
Matt Klaurens, 120 pounds, took silver. Bronze medals went to Drake Tayson, 106 pounds; Dylan McDonald, 126 pounds; Tyler Norton, 132 pounds; TJ Burger, 128 pounds and Justin Sikes, 195 pounds.
In junior varsity action, Alex Weber took the gold in the 106-pound weight division and James Edwards was the top finisher at 120 pounds.

The wrestling team next competes on Feb. 21 at the 6A Olathe North Regional meet. The top four places in each weight division advance to the state championship.
