Last weekend, varsity traveled to the Baldwin Invitational Tournament. The Blazers had some surprise visits by two recent alumni, as well as a very successful start to the day. In pool play, the team beat Baldwin (25-14, 25-19), Paola (25-13, 25-6), and Wellsville (25-8, 25-6).
In the first round of bracket play, the team defeated Hayden in straight sets, 25-16, 25-17. Morgan McIntire led the offense with 17 kills, followed by Jaylyne Bell with nine. Holly Maska led from the serving line with two aces, and Kendra Wait led with seven digs as well as 25 assists.
In the championship match, our #5 in 6A squad took on #5 in 5A Bonner Springs. It was a very exciting match, with lots of hard-driven swings and incredible defensive effort. The Blazers took the match and won the tournament with set scores of 25-23, 25-14. Morgan McIntire led the offense with 11 kills. Jaylyne Bell added eight, Gracen Mealman had three, and Jordan Boone added two. Jordan had a stellar match at the net with four blocks on the match, followed by Kendra Wait with three. Erin Michael led the defensive effort with 12 digs, while Holly Maska served two aces. Morgan McIntire, Ava Bojanski and Erin Michael added an ace apiece.
With that win the Blazers broke a three-year run of finishing second at the BIT.
