McCown-Gordon Construction was hired as the construction manager for At-Risk Services for the Gardner Edgerton School District at the Jan. 11 school board meeting.
Bruce Kracl, director of operations, said that this would be a little different delivery method than in the past.
“We hold different contracts with different trades management contractors,” he said. “Now we will have one contracted manager with subs underneath.”
Kracl said they identified the guaranteed max cost at the time bidding occurred.
”If the cost goes over, it is now the responsibility of the at-risk district manager for additional costs,” he said.
The school district received five responses and four bids as of November 12. Cost proposals were given and interviews were conducted, Kracl said. A five person committee nominated McCown-Gordon Construction. Based on pre-construction estimates, the board approved their bid for $13.5 million.
School board members also passed reroofing Nike Middle School. Three of the roof sections are  20 years old, Kracl said. After receiving seven bids they accepted the lowest bid from Goddard and Sun Roofing for $338,500.
