Thelma Lucille White Plank, 96, of Gardner, Kan., passed away July 15, 2010 at Meadowbrook Hospital in Gardner.
Thelma was born to William Thomas and Nellie Mary Edwards White on Sept. 4, 1913 in a house that was removed to build Gardner Lake. She lived in town with her Grandma White so she could attend Gardner school and later attended Four Corners school with her sister Helen. She graduated from Gardner High School.
Thelma married Ulysses Samuel Grant Plank on March 10, 1936 in Olathe.
She was the bookkeeper for the family business, W.T. White Truck Line, a homemaker, and a nanny to Dr. A.S. Reece’s children. She also was a part time worker at Gardner Hospital and worked the 160 acre family farm.
Thelma was a life long member of the Gardner Presbyterian Church and a past Aids Society Leader for the church. She was a 4-H Leader, active with the Gardner Senior Center, and a founding member of the Docey Dandies Square Dance Club. She enjoyed crafts and leatherwork. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ulysses in 1963, son Myron Plank in 1993 and sister Mary Helen Gay Hempel in 1998.
Thelma is survived by daughter in law Vivian Plank of Gardner; three grandchildren, Gregg, Jeff and Steve Plank all of Gardner; eight great grandchildren; and nephew Bill Gay and Patty of Gardner; great niece Kristen Morton and great nephew Daniel Gay.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, (913)856-7111. Burial will follow at the Gardner Cemetery. Visitation was held July 20, 2010 also at the funeral home.
