A late rally fell short and the Gardner Edgerton High School freshmen football squad dropped a hard-fought 24-12 non-conference decision to Blue Springs at home on Sept. 8.
Blue Springs special teams scored the first two touchdowns and the Wildcats returned a fumble 19 yards for another score.
Back came the Blazers on a 65-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Tyler Stubler to Josh Lang to cut the deficit to 22-6.
Blue Springs added a safety before Stubler and Lang closed the scoring on another 12-yard touchdown strike.
Despite the loss, Chad Enright had an interception and Emilio Fowler recorded nine tackles.
The freshmen A squad hosts Bishop Miege at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 14. The freshmen B squad travels to Miege Sept. 17 for a 9:30 a.m. game start time.
