Santa and Mrs. Claus have been in and out of Gardner in recent weeks attending the Mayor’s Christmas lighting event Nov. 26 and working with their elves at Santa’s Workshop Dec. 2. With an escort of local officials, the couple had no trouble arriving in town for the events. Attendance was good at Gardner’s 28th annual Christmas in the Park. “Roughly 1,000 attended,” said Daneeka Marshall-Oquendo, public information officer. The excitement of the children seeing Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as the lighting of the park, were two of the highlights of the event, she said. Immediately after the lighting event, Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived to visit with children, and school children sang carols. Unfortunately cold weather caused the drone show to be cancelled. “The extreme temperatures had an effect on the GPS locaters and the batteries causing several of them to malfunction about two minutes into the show,” Marshall-Oquendo said.
