The Gardner Edgerton High School Blazer boys varsity basketball team pushed highly-ranked Bishop Miege High School to the brink last Friday night before falling 75-67 in overtime.
Tied 61-61 at the end of regulation, Miege outscored GEHS 14-6 in the extra period to post its 16th win of the season.
GEHS, 11-9, controlled the game throughout, leading 14-0 after one quarter and up 32-27 at halftime. The Blazers held a three-point lead after three quarters, but Miege forced overtime with 16, fourth quarter points.
Despite the loss, GEHS got a 22-point effort from senior point guard Brett Wright. Wright sank three treys and ran the offense efficiently.
Beside Wright, Kyle Hultgren chipped in 18 points and Nash Bostwick earned 11 points. Jacob Haywood had six points, Bryson Rohr netted eight, and Nate Wagner scored two points.
GEHS gets right back at it March 4, with a first round regional home game against Olathe Northwest High School, 11-9.
Tip is set for 7 p.m. in the Blazers gym.
