Gardner Mayor Dave Drovetta plans to appoint Gardner resident and former City Council member to the city’s Electric Utility Board on Monday evening.
According to Monday night’s City Council agenda, Schultz would fill the vacancy left by Brian Broxterman, who was appointed to fill a vacancy on the City Council in April. A majority of the council must approve of the mayoral appointment for Schultz to be seated on the board. His term would expire in February 2011.
Schultz, who has 17 years of experience in electric utilities, has served on the Gardner City Council previously and was in the running to be a mayoral appointee in April before he withdrew his candidacy. Schultz was among eight candidates vying to serve the remainder of Dan Thompson’s term. Thompson had resigned from the council in March.
Schultz wrote a letter to Drovetta in early April withdrawing his name due to an increased time commitment from his new job. He also said in his letter that his previous time on the Gardner City Council “may not work to my advantage. It may be to everyone’s advantage to bring in a fresh, new face.”
