Marlys Ann Meek, 79, of Spring Hill, went to join the Lord in heaven on Nov. 8, 2011 after a brief illness at Olathe Medical Center.

Marlys was born April 8, 1932 in De Soto, KS to Richard and Opal Jensen. She married Vance “Bud” Meek, Jr. on Dec. 27, 1948 at the Spring Hill United Methodist Church. They made their home for most of their married life on the farm near Bucyrus, Kan., before moving to their home in Spring Hill almost two years ago. She really enjoyed her new home in Spring Hill which had plenty of room for family get-togethers.

Marlys was an active member of the Spring Hill United Methodist Church, Morning Grange, EHU Unit, Order of Eastern Star and Spring Hill Alumni. She was always there to help with church bazaars, Grange suppers or any community event.

Bud and Marlys were selected Spring Hill Citizens of the Year in 2003.

Marlys touched the lives of many youth during her 29 year career with the Spring Hill School District as the head of food service and as a ticket taker at District events. She always had a kind word and smile for attendees. Bud and Marlys enjoyed many trips together during their retirement years. They had lots of fun and friends at their place in Forsythe, Mo. where they enjoyed fishing and relaxing. Marlys will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law Diana Meek, wife of Bill.

She is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, Vance “Bud” Meek, Jr. of the home; sons: William “Bill” Meek of Bucyrus, Gerald “Jerry” Meek and wife Pat, Parker, Kan., Kevin Meek and wife Sharon, Spring Hill, and Tim Meek and wife Sharon, Spring Hill; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters: Marie Allen, Olathe, Kan., Jane Jensen, Kansas City, Mo., Dixie Green, Forsythe, Mo. and Sue Sundbye, Nixa, Mo.
