Despite a late rally, the Gardner Edgerton High School lady Blazers were unable to knock-off the visiting Blue Valley Southwest High School basketball team on Friday night. The Southwest squad walked away with a 76-65 win over Eastern Kansas League rivals, the lady Blazers.
“Our team played their hearts out, but came up a little short,” GEHS Coach Amy Stubblefield said. “It was a great game.”
GEHS, now 7-8 on the season, trailed 12-10 after one stanza and 35-28 by halftime.
The Blazers pulled within three points at the end of three quarters, but that was as close as the team would get in the loss.
The final score did not overshadow an excellent effort by GEHS’ Angelice Tucker. She fired in 20 points, including a season-high five treys.
Besides Tucker, Cassidy Androff had 14 points, Kelsey Leffert had nine, Savannah Hallier and Skyler Washington had eight points, Kynli Nelson had three points and Taylor Carpenter had two points.
