Despite showing marked improvement, the Pioneer Ridge seventh grade girls’ varsity basketball team dropped a pair of games to Ottawa and Eudora last week in a doubleheader at Eudora.
In the opener, Pioneer lost a close 23-19 decision to Ottawa. The Jags trailed just 9-6 at halftime and a three point shot at the buzzer brought the Jags to within 13-11 after three quarters.
But Ottawa outscored Pioneer 10-8 in the final stanza to escape with a victory.
Bri Gaut led the scoring with six points and eight steals. Makenna Trout and Breanna Coleman had four points, Ellie Garrie, three and Cayden Forrester, two points.
Game two versus Eudora proved more difficult as Pioneer lost 39-20.
Eudora jumped to a 25-8 first half lead and rolled to victory.
Makenna Trout led the way with seven points and six rebounds, while Breanna Coleman had five points and three rebounds.
