Battling til the end, the Lady Blazers volleyball squad dropped a pair of hard-fought matches to area powers Bishop Miege and Washburn Rural.
In the opener, GEHS beat Washburn Rural, ranked third in 5A, 25-20 in game one. In game two, the Blazers gave up some early points off costly errors and couldn’t battle back losing, 18-25. Game three saw GEHS drop another 18-25 decision.
In the second match versus number six nationally-ranked Miege, Gardner Edgerton High School lost 17-25, 25-27.
Despite the losses, junior Cassie Wait included 23 kills and 24 digs. Sophomore Jill Starling recorded 10 kills. Junior Mackenzie Skeens had nine kills and 15 digs.
Junior Hannah Bettge contributed 43 assists and 18 digs and junior Danie Plank led blockers with four stuff blocks.
