John Robert James, 73, of Lenexa, KS, passed away on January 22, 2011 at his home.
A life-long area resident, John was born February 10, 1937 in Olathe, KS to Andy John and Lula Mae (Lawler) James. He graduated from Olathe High School and attended trade school for heating and cooling. He served in the U S Army from 1959-1961. John married Barbara A Cordell on September 21, 1961 in Gardner. He was a farmer, raising crops and cattle, and served as foreman for the Miller Turf Farm. He is a member the Church of Christ in Olathe. He and Barb liked to travel and were active member of the Good Sam RV Club. John liked to tinker with mechanical items and autos and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Johns was a wonderful husband and father. He loved spending time with his grandson, Christopher John.
He was preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by his wife Barb of the home; son John Dale “JD” James of Olathe; daughter Stacy Leigh James of Shawnee, KS; one grandson; brother Gerald “Jerry” James and wife Betty of Lenexa; and sister Dorothy Jean Sheldon and husband Chester of Stilwell, KS.
Funeral Services will be 11:30 am Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, Kansas, 913-856-7111.Burial will follow at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 25, 2011 also at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Olathe Hospice.
