Led by senior Kyle Hultgren, the Gardner Edgerton High School Blazer boys varsity basketball team turned back Liberty, Mo., 75-67, in the inaugural 810 Varsity’s Best of the Midwest Showcase at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., on Jan. 31.
Hultgren scored six points in the first quarter as GEHS built a 20-9 lead. He added eight more in the second quarter and finished with 25 points.
By halftime, GEHS owned a 40-26 lead which increased to 54-38 after three quarters. From there, the Blazers coasted to their seventh win of the season.
Two other Blazers netted double digit points in the match-up. Nash Bostwick scored 15 points and GEHS point guard Brett Wright added 12 points. Other Blazer scorers included Conner Boyt with six points, Devan Toomey with five, and Jacob Garrett, Bryson Rohr, and Nate Wagner with four points.
