The 12th Annual Gardner Lake 4th of July Boat Parade was held on Saturday July 4, 2015. After days and days of rain, the sun came out and the weather was perfect for the community parade on the fourth.
The boat parade led off with the Committee Boat, which carried Grand Marshall Cindy DeRosa. Cindy was instrumental in kicking off the very first parade 12 years ago. The Committee Boat carried a PA system which featured the steel drums and vocals of Lazzell H. Williams. The Committee Boat also passed out information to the public on how to vote for their favorite parade float.

Themes included an Ice Cream Float, Frozen, Forrest Gump’s shrimp boat, Mr. Pipers Penguins and the cast of Gilligan’s Island, which came in third place.
The Kansas City Royals were represented on Gardner Lake waters by the Young family and got the second place trophy. Getting one more vote, and the first place trophy, was the Ahrens family, for the Katy Perry Half Time Show featuring “Left Shark”.
Amy Heaven, parade coordinator, said the voting was extremely close. Each of the top 5 finishers were separated by just one or two votes and the lead changed multiple times.
The Committee’s Choice Award is a new award that was just added this year and it went to the ‘Good Humor’ Man ice cream float.
It was a festive day featuring family, food, fun and fireworks at Gardner Lake.
