Ethel M. Haynes, 83, of Gardner, Kan. passed away Aug. 18, 2011 at Good Samaritan Center, Olathe, Kan.

Ethel was born June 7, 1928 in Gardner to Raymond and Anna (Plistal) Smith. She was a 1946 graduate of Gardner High School. Ethel married Russell Haynes on Nov. 17, 1946 in Olathe.
Ethel and Russ operated the Gardner Recreation Center “Pool Hall”. She also was a co-owner of Russ’s TV with her husband. She served 20 years as the Treasurer for the City of Gardner and the last 22 years as bookkeeper for Gardner City Maintenance.
Russ and Ethel were instrumental, along with Robert and Annalee Smith, Ed and Frances Dolisi, Harold and Betty Eastland and T J and Frances Hutton, in founding the Gardner Little League baseball for boys and softball for girls.
Ethel was a member of the Gardner Baptist Church. She was a 53 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a 60 year member of Gardner’s Eastern Star. Ethel loved to fish, hunt and garden with Russ. She enjoyed her ceramics and traveling. Ethel loved her community and her many friends. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Stella McIntire Dye.
Ethel is survived by her sons R. Stan Haynes, Kansas and Stephen D. Haynes, Texas; and sister Florence DeGrand, Gardner, Kan.
