The Gardner City Council will discuss increasing court fees at their Monday, Dec. 7 council meeting.
According to the city’s agenda, the court fees retained in the city’s general fund were last increased in July 2010. Currently, the total court cost added to a citation is $45 per citation. Of that, $24.50 is retained by the city’s general fund, but that would increase to $29 if approved by the council.
The staff also recommends “housekeeping changes to the current ordinance allowing for any required state fee adjustments without the need to present said changes to the city council.”
If the change is approved by the council, the municipal court judge would have the ability to make a change once the “city portion is found to be insufficient and/or the municipal judge finds a need for city fee increases.”
