The Gardner Edgerton High School Varsity volleyball team took down Shawnee Mission West Vikings last night 3-0, with set scores of 25-14, 25-14, 25-14. The #5 Blazers move to 19-5 on the season, 9-1 in league. It was another full team effort, with multiple Blazers contributing to the win.
The Blazers had a particularly strong match from the service line, serving 10 aces as a team. FR Jaylyne Bell had a career-high four aces on the night, followed by JR Holly Maska and SR Kyla Shappell with two apiece. FR Erin Michael and SR Emma Prothe added one ace each on the night.
Kyla Shappell led the Blazer with 13 kills, followed by SR Gabbie Bishop with 7. JR Morgan McIntire and SR Amber Mott put down 5 kills apiece, followed by Emma Prothe with 4. Defensively, Erin Michael led with 16 digs, Kyla Shappell added 13, and Morgan McIntire picked up 11. Kendra Wait added four blocks as well.
Next week is a big week for the Blazers. There will be home matches on Tuesday (5/6 PM) and Thursday (5/6 PM). Thursday is the annual Dig Pink match, meant to support breast cancer awareness. There will be a silent auction and bake sale as well, with all funds being donated.
From JV: JV came out strong and beat SMW 25-8 and 25-15. Offense was led by Ashton Keith with 8 kills and Kiersten Markos with 6 kills. Defense was strong behind Ava Bojanski and Cassia Gruis both with 9 digs.
