Falling behind 21-0 in the first quarter, the Gardner Edgerton High School Blazer football squad dropped a 70-20 decision to Blue Valley High School in the 6A district opener Friday night.
The Blazers’ lone first-half score came on a one-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Colton Mullin. Jan Kubes added a successful extra point.
GEHS added 13, fourth-quarter points thanks to an 11-yard touchdown run, and a two-yard run by sophomore quarterback Griffin Johns.
Despite the loss, Mullin completed 7 of 17 passes for 137 yards and one touchdown. He rushed for 56 yards on 19 totes.

Quarterback Mullins’ favorite target was Zach Bass who hauled in five catches for 79 yards. The Blazers accumulated 266 total yards of offense.
Now 0-7, GEHS returns home to host Blue Valley Northwest in second round district play. Northwest lost to Olathe South last week 41-22.
