Gardner-Edgerton heads to the playoffs with a full head of steam after a 56-21 shellacking of Olathe Northwest on Nov1.
That victory gave the Blazers the district crown with a perfect 3-0 mark.
GE was led by senior duo Traveohn Wrench and Jared Hobby.  Wrench, the University of Kansas-signee and leading candidate for the Simone Award given to the top football player in the Kansas City area, rushed for 207 yards and six touchdowns.  Hobby completed 12 of 16 passes for 161 yards and one touchdown.
Five of Wrench’s TDs came in the first half as his team built a 35-14 cushion.  The first of those scores came with less than a minute gone in the contest when the powerful running back took it in from 4-yards out.
Northwest responded with an eight-play drive to tie the score at 7 at the 7:29 mark of the first period.
Right back came the Blazers on a five play series for six with Wrench taking it in from 18 yards out to make it 14-7 after Tim Mitchell drilled the extra point.
GE scored on its next three possessions-all Wrench TD runs- to go out in front 35-7.  The Ravens continued to battle, scoring another TD before intermission to make it 35-14 at the break.
Behind an offensive line of Donovan Fahey, Chris Oathout, Andrew Plank, Sean Callahan, and Kelly Bromley, Wrench added his final touchdown -an 11-yard scamper-late in the third period to push the lead to 42-14.
After junior linebacker Seth Pesek scored on a pick six to make it 49-14, Hobby found Marshall Wade on a 2-yard scoring pass midway through the final period to account for the 56-21 final.
Hobby’s favorite target on the night was Jaylon Radel, who caught five passes for 86 yards.  Deontre Kendrick and Wade each caught three aerials, and tight end Josh Lang added one catch.
Wrench’s 207 yards led the team in rushing.  Hobby had 24-yards on the ground to go with his fine game in the air and Jaden Pearson-Bruce had 18 yards on three carries late in the contest.  Wade had three carries for nine yards, Radel had an eight-yard tote and Anthony Smartt added a five yard carry to the 271 yard total.
Pesek and Carson Hobby were the defensive leaders each with three solo tackles and one interception.  Senior linebacker Dustin Williams also had three tackles with fellow linebackers Brett Goetzmann and Justin Perriman each having two stops on the night. Logan Powell led the defensive line with two tackles.
The victory gives the Blazers a glittering 8-1 record with both the Eastern Kansas League and district championships.
Next up for GE is a first round playoff game against Olathe East.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 at USD 231 district stadium.
