Betty Margarette Tackett, 77, of Edgerton, Kan. passed away April 26, 2012 at her home.

Betty was born July 23, 1934 in Coal Run, Ky. to Earl Thomas and Georgia Ann (May) Scott. She grew up in the hills of Kentucky and was a childhood friend and played with a young Lorretta Lynn.

She graduated from high school and attended LPN school at Providence-St. Margaret’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

Betty married Carlos Tackett on Aug. 28, 1955. They moved from Kansas City, Kan. to Edgerton in 1974. Her last position was a nursing assistant at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed fishing, gardening, bowling on a team and was an avid reader, softball scorekeeper and bird watcher. She also collected salt and pepper shakers. Betty will be dearly missed by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carlos, in 1984 and brother George Scott.

Betty is survived by her children, Ynema Tackett, Edgerton and Ilena Spalding, Gardner, Kan.; two grandchildren, Ryan Gregory Spalding and Stefanie Nicole Shryock; eight great-grandchildren, Skyler, Arianna, Gabrielle, Hinata, Rose, Corbin, Alexiel, and Roman; siblings, Earl Scott, Jr. of Energy, Ill., Sid Scott of Hackney Creek, Ky., BertaAnn Childers of Pikeville, Ky. and Edward Thomas Scott of Hackney, Ky.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., May 1, 2012 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Burial follows at Edgerton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., April 30, 2012 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Advantage of Overland Park, Kan.
