The Gardner Athena GFWC met at 1 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the Gardner branch of the Johnson County Library, after a short break during the summer months of June, July and August.
Members answered roll call with a fact about Yellowstone or the Grand Teton National Park. Some answers included information about park history, wildlife, and types of trees and vegetation contained within the park.
Committee reports were given followed by information on future workshops, fundraising, and the upcoming international convention in June of 2017.
Delegates were also selected to represent the club at the Mississippi Valley region conference to be held in Excelsior Springs, Mo.
Juanita Rothaus, member, gave a program entitled, “Why Women Should Vote,” which was highlighted by a power point presentation. The right of women to vote was a long, hard fought battle, and most are not aware of the magnitude of abuse visited upon women who chose to fight for the right to vote. All women are encouraged to register and vote in every election.
The next meeting is set for Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Gardner branch of the Johnson County Library. Athena welcomes all interested women of the community to join in helping with a multitude of community projects focusing on children, education, music and the arts.
