Angela Reimers, 86, longtime resident of Gardner, Kan, passed away April 19, 2019 at Villa St. Francis, Olathe, Kan.

Angela’s deep Christian faith colored every aspect of her life, so it almost seems fitting that she would leave this world on Good Friday. It gives her family great comfort to know that as they were celebrating Easter here, she was in the presence of her eternal Father in heaven.

Angela was born May 21, 1932, in White Plains, New York, and grew up in the Bronx. Her parents, Frank and Angelina (Albrizio) Basile, emigrated from Italy to the United States before she was born. After graduating from high school, she worked as a dental assistant for the doctor who served as the team dentist for the New York Yankees baseball team.

Angela married Robert Reimers on June 14, 1958, in New York City. They met at a youth rally in 1957, shortly before Billy Graham began his lengthy crusade at Madison Square Garden. Together, they sang in the choir and served as counselors at the historic revival that went on night after night for almost 16 weeks. They moved to Gardner in 1973.

The youngest of seven herself, Angela considered raising her own seven children to be her greatest achievement. She was proud of their musical, academic and professional accomplishments, but it made her the happiest to know they all followed in her footsteps of faith.

A homemaker her entire married life, Angela’s long legacy of hospitality often centered on her homemade Italian spaghetti sauce, which she taught all of her children to make. She and Robert opened their home to many dinner guests over the years, including international students, missionaries and families from the churches they attended.

With her husband, Angela was a founding member of Fellowship Bible Church in Gardner. She participated in small groups, served in the women’s ministry, encouraged new mothers with small gifts, prepared meals for families in times of need, and went out of her way to make newcomers feel welcome. Over the years, she diligently prayed for friends and family members near and far, and she also encouraged them by sending greeting cards to mark birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.

Angela was married to Robert for more than 60 years. After her move to long-term care at Villa St. Francis in 2017, the brightest spot in her life was looking forward to his daily visits, rain or shine. Their relationship was a testament to the staff and other residents of faithful love and fidelity.

Angela was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary, and brothers Daniel, Joseph, Frank and Nicolas. She is survived by her husband, Robert, and her seven children: Joseph (Laurie) Reimers, Mauriceville, Texas; Stephen (Wakana) Reimers, Japan; Peter (Julie) Reimers, Philippines; Lydia Reimers, Baldwin City, Kan; Ruth (Jerry) Keehner, Bowie, Md; Lois (Randy) Flowers, Olathe, Kan; and Esther (Steve) Ware, Grinnell, Iowa. Angela also is survived by 13 grandchildren and her sister, Catherine.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Fri., April 26 at Fellowship Bible Church, 16900 S. Waverly in Gardner. The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Sat., April 27 also at Fellowship Bible Church. Burial follows at Gardner Cemetery, Gardner. Memorial contributions may be made to the Missions Fund of Fellowship Bible Church (specify Angela Reimers Memorial in the memo line).
