T.J.Burger,Emilio Fowler,and Dustin Williams recently competed in the Cadet Freestyle and Greco Roman national wrestling meet in Fargo, N.D.
The trio earned a spot on the Kansas national roster with top four placings in the Kansas State Freestyle and Greco Roman championships ,May 6.
Burger,a sophomore at GEHS,finished fourth at state in the Cadet division in both Freestyle and Greco Roman championships .At nationals,he earned two victories in Greco and gained national attention.
Fowler,also a sophomore at GEHS,earned his trip to nationals with state titles in both styles in May.at nationals. He scored wins in both styles and will be a force this coming year.
The top performance belonged to GEHS junior Dustin Williams who earned his second straight All American status with a second place finish in Greco style. He reached nationals with Kansas state titles in May and was the highest placed Kansan at nationals this year.He also won two matches in Freestyle but had to default from competition due to a rib injury.His second place finish is the highest finish in GEHS history.
“Dustin’s drive and explosiveness is unlike any wrestler I have ever coached in 14 years,” said Ccach Matt Yeamans.He is a student of the sport and and strives to learn new technique and advance his skill. We are so proud of him and know his sights are set high for nationals again next year.”
Yeamans added,” I am so proud of all three kids that represented Kansas and the Gardner Edgerton community as they competed on the national level. It is a priceless experience that will impact their success during the high school season this year.”
