Friday July 8 Johnson County Library is showing the 1971 Disney classic “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” at Cornerstone Park, (215 N. Center St.) as part of its Movies in the Park series.
Their theme this summer is “Oceans of Possibilities” and live pre-entertainment kicks off at 7pm before the movie at dusk.
The Messner Puppet Theater will present “How to Snag a Sea Monster.” The plot of the puppet performance is a monstrous wave washes a creature ashore and the people of a small Cape Cod town hear a strange wailing. Is it a sea monster in their midst? No, it’s a baby as big as a house. The village adopts the giant baby and names them Stormalong, “Stormy” for short. Growing over 24 feet Stormy struggles to fit in and chooses a life at sea aboard a clipper ship to find a place in the world. In the meantime a real sea monster torments the village and only Stormy is big and brave enough to save them all.
The event is free to the public and blankets, chairs and picnics are allowed.
