Paraeducator to see pay increase
Effective March 1, 2021, USD 231 will increase all paraeducator hourly wages. Current staff members will receive an additional $1per hour and the paraeducator pay scale will be adjusted by the same level -an increase of $1 per hour for each step on the scale. These changes are in large part due to the desire to ensure our rates of pay remain competitive with neighboring school districts – thus allowing us to enhance our ability to attract and retain these vital team members.
Licensed personnel report provided
The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) requires each district to submit an annual report demonstrating teachers are appropriately licensed or certified. Each accredited district must prepare this mandatory licensed personnel report and submit it by the end of February/early March.
USD 231 submitted the report to KSDE on Feb. 22, 2020. The report contains multiple data points about each teacher, but focuses on making sure each teacher’s license matches his/her assignment.
The report does not involve most administrators, nor does it include many of our specialists (e.g., social workers, speech pathologists or occupational therapists).
With over 500 teachers in the district, there are always items to clarify. Removing teachers who have left the district, adding new teachers, noting transfers and providing additional details about teachers on provisional or waiver licenses (e.g., teachers in a special education assignment working on a full special education endorsement, or new teachers with an out of state license working under a one-year temporary license).
All of the 500 plus teachers have the appropriate license/endorsement for their assigned grade level/content area.
Winter, spring recruiting fairs
Winterand spring teacher recruiting fairs are underway at the local colleges and universities. In almost every case, these will be virtual events, for obvious reasons.
As the district has done the last two years, focus will be on those schools in our area which have produced the most/best candidates. Although we will consider other opportunities which may become available later in the spring, we have/will participate in the following virtual recruiting/interview fairs: Pittsburg State, Kansas State, Kansas University, Emporia and Mid America Nazarene.
