The weekend of Jan. 17 was one for the record books on the mats.  Both teams traveled to Basehor-Linwood for the always tough Bobcat Classic.  Both teams rose to the occasion and had the best full team showing all year.  Both teams came away with a second place finish overall – the highest finish for either team ever.
The girls took second to Baldwin the #1 ranked team in the state, the amazing thing is they did it with only six girls – Baldwin had 12 girls – and just barely edged us out in the final round.  Overall the girls only lost four matches the entire tournament.  Dakota Konzem took first at 143.  Michaela Konzem 1st at 115.  Shelby Davis 1st at 138.  Lilly Kepler took first at 120 and also came home with the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award.  Lilly Dominated a returning state finalist and #1 ranked wrestler from Paola 10-3
The boys had the tough job of following up the girls, but they too came to take care of business.  The team finished behind only 5A powerhouse Aquinas and had a big win over highly ranked Bonner Springs.  Caden Smith was a standout on the day going 3-1 with three big pins.  Gus Davis dominated several top ranked opponents with ease.  Alonzo Borjas wrestled his best of the year dominating each time on the mat.  Josh Andrews showed the most guts going undefeated after winning his final match with a pin in the closing seconds despite trailing 0-7.

Overall the teams looked great and we can’t wait to take the mat again!
