Last weekend the Gardner Police Department joined members of the Deron Cherry Foundation to deliver gifts to the Gardner community.
“We had the honor and privilege of being a small part of this awesome Holiday delivery,” said Steve Benz, public information officer. “Thank you Deron Cherry Foundation for including us and for all you do.”
Deron Cherry is a former Chiefs player who started the Deron Cherry Foundation.
According to the website, when Cherry was young there was a member of his community that allowed him and other kids to play in the gymnasium rather than be in the streets. This lead to him being able to focus on football and later be recruited by the Kansas City Chiefs. He played for the Chiefs for 11 years and was named to six Pro Bowls, was a five-time All-Pro, awarded the Byron “Whizzer” White NFL Man of the Year Award and the Chiefs NFL Man of the Year selection.
