Take yoga off the mat and onto a chair during a program being offered by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District beginning in late November. Physical distancing and COVID-19 safe practices will be encouraged during this program. For those not yet comfortable attending in-person program, a virtual Chair Yoga class for all ages is also offered beginning in early December.
Chair Yoga classes incorporate breathing with movement, while retaining all the benefits of yoga from a chair. Participants can experience standing balance poses using the chair for support as needed. To find both of these programs online at JCPRD.com/Activities, browse first under 50 Plus and then under fitness & health and, look for the keyword “exercise.”
The in-person Chair Yoga for ages 50 and older is offered at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays beginning Nov. 24 in the Birch Room at the Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village. The cost for six 50-minute sessions is $45 per person for Johnson County residents or $49 for person for nonresidents. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online at JCPRD.com, click on “Register for Activities,” and complete a search for activity number 7373.
While the JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at (913) 831-2975 for space availability.
