K9 officer Niko turns nine
K9 Officer Niko, a Belgian Malinois, will turn nine on Nov. 2, his partner Sgt. Lance Wipf said.
Niko is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, suspect apprehension, building/area search, evidence and article recovery and handler protection, Wipf said.
In 2020 so far, Niko was responsible for 14 arrests and deployed 60 times. He’s been involved in: one Article/Evidence Search; 16 Building/Area Searches; eight Tracks for Suspectl; and 35 Narcotic Deployments.
Niko has been with the Spring Hill Police Department since March 2013. He was born in Tulsa, Okla.
