Two projects in Johnson County began on April 27.
Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 from 159th Street to Blue Valley Parkway will have lane and ramp closures for a pavement overlay project beginning April 27, weather permitting. Work will occur during daylight and night hours and is expected to be complete in early June.
Traffic will be controlled using mobile lane closures, traffic cones and digital signage. Superior Bowen Asphalt Co., of Kansas City, Mo., is the contractor on the $1.1 million project.
For the second project, eastbound and westbound U.S. 56 at 199th Street is scheduled for intersection and safety improvements to begin April 27, weather permitting. Work will occur during daylight hours and is expected to be complete in early October.
Intersection improvements will add right and left turn lanes for eastbound U.S. 56 and a left turn lane for westbound U.S. 56. Safety improvements include creating 10-foot shoulders and shallower embankment slopes.
Traffic will be controlled using a flagging operation. Access to northbound Sunflower Road and southbound 199th Street will be closed for the duration of the project. Leavenworth Excavating & Equipment Co., of Leavenworth is the contractor on the $2 million project.
