Sealed bids will be received online at, until 10:00 a.m. local time, on May 12, 2020, for the construction of Olathe Fire Academy, Project No. 6-C-004-13.


Each general contractor will be afforded an opportunity to schedule with the Owner’s representative a visit to the project site to review existing conditions. These site visits will be scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, 2020, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. for 20 minutes in duration. Due to CDC recommendations, employee safety, and heightened concern surrounding the COVID-19 coronavirus, the general contractor may bring a team of no more than 7 persons to the site visit. Smaller groups may be scheduled together but not to exceed a total of 10 persons, including Owner representation.


A pre-bid conference call (or video conference) will be held at 10:00 a.m. local time on Thursday, May 7, 2020.

The work consists of the following:


Development of a 22 acre site including: in excess of 3 acres of asphalt pavement; over 14 acres of concrete pavement; a 1,000 sf building; foundations for and coordination with concurrent erection of a 5-story fire training tower (under a separate contract).


An Owner’s Allowance (Set) determined by the City will be included within the Schedule of Values for this project. Line Item no. 2 shall be bid at $50,000.


Bid documents including drawings and specifications are on file at the office of Public Works of Olathe, Kansas, and are open for public inspections. Bid documents and drawings may be downloaded free of charge from Only bids submitted electronically at will be accepted.


A satisfactory bid bond executed by the bidder or an acceptable surety, in an amount equal to five percent (5%) of the total bid for work shall be submitted with each proposal. A scanned copy of the BID BOND must be included with the online bid submitted at


The successful bidder will be required to furnish and pay satisfactory performance and payment bond or bonds.


The City of Olathe, Kansas, reserves the right to reject any or all bids or to waive any informality in the bidding.


Bids may be held by the City of Olathe, Kansas, for a period not to exceed sixty (60) days from the date of  the opening of bids for the purpose of reviewing the bids and investigating the qualifications of bidders, prior to awarding the contract.


Effective April 24, 2000, all bidders shall submit in writing to the Olathe Community Relations Office an affirmative action program. No contract will be awarded to any company that has not been issued a Certification of Compliance by the Olathe Human Relations Commission within the past three years.
