The 8th grade varsity Mustang Volleyball team started their season taking Louisburg to three games. They lost their first game 20-25, came back to win the second game 25-22 and fought hard the third game but lost 14-15.
Aaliyah Green led the team with four aces and three kills and libero Kenzie Sullivan passed outstanding in the back row. Wheatridge then went on to take on Trail Ridge Middle School losing their first game 7-25 but worked hard to fight back the second game but lost 18-25. Amara Beck led the team with three aces.
On Aug. 27 the 8th grade J.V. Lady Mustangs had their first game of the season at home. During the first match against Louisburg, they played hard but fell short 19 to 25. Leading servers that round were Hope Kabreal, Ava Wichart and Mariah Reeves, Wichart and Reeves each had two aces. The second set the ladies came up fighting, and it was a close game that ended with Louisburg taking the win 21 to 25. Leading servers for that game were Ashley Sanders, Meghan Page, Hope Kabreal and Ava Wichart. All of which had aces as well. Wichart was able to get the ball set up for Sanders who had some great hits at the net.
Next up the Lady Stangs faced the local Trailridge Huskies. The girls played very hard against them and took the game into three close games. The first one the lady mustangs fell to the Huskies 21-25. Leading servers were Hope Kabreal and Mariah Reeves. Meghan Page and Kabreal each had an ace that game. The second set the Ladies were on fire and beat TRMS 25 to 21. The leading servers were Hope Kabreal and Ashley Sanders. Kabreal had an ace. And the last match of the night the ladies fought hard but fell short after a long battle. Leading servers in that round were Hope Kabreal and Ava Wichart. Kabreal and Mariah Reeves each had a ace.
There was some great defensive plays throughout the games from Ashley Sanders and Riley Hutchinson. The ladies will be back in action on Thursday night in Ottawa.
Wheatridge 7th grade varsity volleyball started their season taking the lead against Louisburg and coming out strong. They fought hard but ended up losing their first game 22-25, and their second game 10-25. Addison McClure led the team with nine serves and four aces with several great passes from Olivia Long, Abigail Callahan, and Avry Graham.
Mustang volleyball went on to take on Trail Ridge Middle School with a slow start losing their first game 9-25. The team really came together and fought to the end, losing their last game 10-25. Addison McClure led the team with seven serves and four aces with several amazing passes from Jillian Bryan, Addison Holle, Abi Allen, Emerson Holle, and Keegan Hinkle.
The 7th grade JV Volleyball girls started their season off at Louisburg. The girls took on Louisburg first and fell short in the first and second game. Brynna Flannery led the team with six passes/returns. The Mustangs then took on Trail Ridge Middle school where they had more energy and more rallies, but once again fell short in both games. Savannah Holmes led the team with 4 consecutive aces in the game.
