David DeWitt Gay ran a dry goods store on Main Street in the 1920s. It was located where the Gardner Variety Store was located, later, and where the Inspire Dance Studio is located, currently.

Pictured are Frederick Sanford Hermon  and Elsie Gay Hermon sitting on the steps at 230 W. Park, Gardner. Elsie was the youngest sister of D.D. Gay who had the mercantile store. The photo was probably taken around 1930.

D.D. Gay was the brother of Maria Gay Turner. Maria’s husband was the original owner of the Turner Barn.
