Elevate Edgerton has been working with area high schools to bridge the interest gap between high school age students and the various careers in the logistics and supply chain industry.
Many people don’t realize how much these careers have changed over the last two to three decades, and there are some incredible career opportunities available to students without needing any type of college education, said James Oltman, Elevate Edgerton president.
“With one of the nation’s fastest growing industrial parks in the country in their back yard, we thought there is an excellent opportunity to try and give them the experience of seeing firsthand the types of jobs that are available.”
Wellsville students toured Jet.com on April 25 to learn about Jet as a company – as well as the different career paths that are available both in Edgerton and companywide.
After the tour students returned to the Learning and Career Center and viewed a presentation from NorthPoint Development on careers in Property Management, Facilities Management and Maintenance.
The students also toured ColdPoint Logistics to learn about the cold storage industry. Coldpoint’s virtual reality training system was set up for students to experience.
“It was a fantastic day, and this is something we will continue to work with area high schools to try and provide,” said Oltman. “We just want them to understand that there are fantastic, well paying careers available that don’t require a college education.”
Gardner Edgerton students are scheduled to visit May 3.
Elevate Edgerton is a private-public entity unveiled in April 2018 charged with the responsibility of organizing and facilitating the growth of Edgerton and the Logistics Park. The organization, funded in part by the city, is charged with steering the development of the services and facilities that will make the logistics park a success and guarantee its success.
