The Blazer boys squad continued its winning ways by claiming the “The KS Cup” in the 92nd Annual Kansas Relays, a first in program history.
This award was earned by scoring the most points per relay event out of all competing Kansas schools.
“This is an incredibly large meet (dozens of schools plus several more out of state) with difficult qualifying standards, so to win this is quite special” said Brian McGee, coach.
4x1600m relay: Quenton Walion, Rodolfo Berrum, Wrenner Brown and Trent Cochran.
They set a school record of 18:45.48, shattering the old record by 33 seconds. Cochran ran the fastest mile split of all 84 of the participants in 4:28. The team placed sixth overall and was the top placing Kansas school.
Distance Medley Relay (DMR) which is 1200-400-800-1600
Participants were: Walion, Mitch Lumley, A.J. Bohon, Cochran.
They placed fourth overall and again were the highest placing Kansas school. Their time was also a school record in 10:45.19.
4x100m relay:
Participants were: Matt Beyer, Jakob Renaud, TaeVheon Alcorn, SaeVheon Alcorn
In prelims on April 19 the boys ran the fastest time in the state—42.66-barely off the school record. On April 20 in the elite final they placed fourth in 43.17—the third fastest time in the state currently. This squad is undefeated Vs all Kansas competition they have faced so far this season.
4x400m relay:
Participants were: SaeVheon Alcorn, TaeVheon Alcorn, Bohon, Beyer.
With the Kansas Cup on the line and needing to finish strong, the boys won the Sunflower Showdown Vs the best 4×4 teams in the state, leading from start to finish with a time of 3:27.89.
Other medalists included:
Teven McKelvey, triple jump, 45’4.25″, 5th place
Dayton Williams, high jump, 6′ 6″, 6th place
Colton Goodman, pole vault, 13’8″, 7th place (season best)
Jacob Serrioz, javelin, 172′ 4″, 7th place
Caleb Calvin, javelin, 169′ 7″, 8th place (season best)
