Rep. Sharice Davis spoke at the American Legion District 2 Convention March 23. Gardner Post #19 hosted the Second District annual convention. Second district encompasses 25 posts in nine counties.
Members meet each year to discuss activities. This was Post 19’s centennial. Attending were U.S.Congresswoman Sharice Davids; national executive, department, district and post officers as well as members. Also present were Lady’s Auxiliary officers and members; Son’s of the American Legion and American Legion Riders. About 120 people attended the event and represented Dodge City, Topeka, Leavenworth, and post’s from the 2nd District’s nine counties.
Jeff Barber, district II Vice CMDR , was elected to District II CMDR. He is the first District II CMDR from Gardner since 1992.
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress on March 15,1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the mation’s largest wartime veterans , service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to fellow service members and veteran’s. The American Legion from a National level is then broken down into 55 Departments.
