The election of a new chairperson and vice chairperson for the Gardner City Utility Advisory Commission failed to take place after the commission’s meeting was cancelled due to a lack of quorum.
Of the commission’s five members, only the current chairperson Ryan Learned was in attendance at the Feb. 7 meeting.
Besides the elections, the commission was also slated to consider the appointment of the city’s representatives for the positions of director and alternate director with voting rights to the board of the Kansas Municipal Energy Agency (KMEA).
The commissioners were also expected to consider the appointment of a city representative to the Kansas Rural Water Association (KRWA).
Gonz Garcia, utilities director, told The Gardner News after the meeting’s cancellation that he recalls only once before that the commission failed to meet the quorum requirements.
“The weather today was a factor,” added Learned.
Other commissioners are: Clint Barney, Andrew Krievins, Duane Waldman and Gary Williams.
The commission provides guidance and recommendations for all utilities of the city including water, wastewater and electric. Commission members are appointed by the city council and serve without compensation for four year terms.
