Velma E. Coiner, 98, of Lakewood, Colo, formerly of Gardner, Kan, passed away Nov. 21, 2018.
Velma was born June 1, 1920 in Kansas City, Mo to Charles E. and Zelpha (Holman) Minter. She grew up in Lawson, Mo and moved to Spring Hill, Kan to attend school. Velma graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1938. She married Ralph L. Coiner on June 29, 1941 in Excelsior Springs, Mo. After marriage they moved to Overland Park and to Gardner in 1965. Velma worked as a secretary at Broadmoor Jr. High School in the Shawnee Mission School District. She was a member of the Gardner Presbyterian Church. Velma became a Christian at the age of 7 and the Lord was an important part of her life. After her love for the Lord, her greatest joy was her family. She enjoyed the Prairie Dogs Camping Club, RVing, gardening and sewing. Velma was talented and accomplished many different things around the farm. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ralph in 2007. Velma is survived by daughter, Karen Coiner, Lakewood, Colo; son, James “Jim” and wife Devra Coiner, Gardner, Kan; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial Service 2:00 pm Fri., Dec. 7, 2018 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, Kan (913) 856-7111. Visitation 1:00 pm prior to the service. Private family burial at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, KS.
