Varsity volleyball took first in the Tonganoxie Invitational this weekend, posting a perfect 6-0 record without dropping a set all day. The #5 Blazers kicked off the day with a win over Junction City (25-11, 25-6), followed by wins over Eudora (25-12, 25-14), Tonganoxie (25-9, 25-23), and Schlagle (25-9, 25-6).
The Blazers finished first in the pool, moving on to a rematch with league opponent SMNW in the first round of bracket play. The Blazer took down SMNW (25-20, 25-16) and moved on to the finals. The #8 Topeka Trojans were extremely athletic, but the Blazers completely controlled the match from the start, winning with set scores of 25-10, 25-16.
There were a number of positive individual statistics and individual success to celebrate, but the coaches are most proud of the complete team effort on Saturday. Every single player contributed to the team’s success this weekend, whether it was from the bench or on the court, and played with each other and for each other the entire day.
The Blazers move to 18-5 on the year and will be back in action at home this Thursday, taking on Shawnee Mission West. JV/Freshman
