Three year old Abel Arthur Magana is undergoing his first month of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia May 23.  Abel lives with his mother Salina Lopez and his brother Quintrel in Gardner.
Funds are needed to offset medical expenses and travel expenses related to his hospitalization. Abel was visiting his father, Anthony Magana, in West Plains, Mo., when he became ill and began to run a high fever. Abel was in and out of the emergency room and doctor’s office before being sent to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis where he immediately began treatment with blood transfusion, bone marrow tests and chemotherapy thru a port in his chest.
Lopez lives and works in Gardner and must travel back and forth to St. Louis, to maintain employment and care for her 1 year old,  until Abel is stable enough to be transferred back to Kansas City for further medical treatment.
“Anything and everything at this point helps, this is our worst nightmare,” Lopez said.
A GoFundMe account has been set up under helping-abel-fight-cancer. The link is at https://www.gofundme.com/helping-abel-fight-cancer.
“Even just sharing this (GoFundMe link) and your thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated,” Lopez said.
