Ruth Elizabeth Meyers Lorsbach, formerly of Osawatomie, Kan., passed from this earth on Jan. 27, 2017, after several months of illness, and she joined her heavenly family, including her husband Charles and son Chuck.
On Dec. 24, 1932, in the small town of Marysville, Kan., Ruth entered the world as a joy-filled birthday and Christmas gift for her mother Muriel, whose birthday was Dec. 23, and father Andy Meyers. Together with her three brothers, she attended St. Gregory’s Grade School and Marysville High School. She is the mother of two sons by a previous marriage, Charles William Higginbotham, who precedes her in death, and George Phillip Higginbotham. On Nov. 10, 1962, she married Charles Paul Lorsbach at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa. Together, they had one son Robert Brian Lorsbach. They lived for several years in Lenexa before trading city life for the more rural setting of Gardner in 1975 and Osawatomie in 2006. She moved to Cedar Lake Village in 2015.
Ruth was a very loving and dedicated mother whose life was devoted to raising her three sons. As her family grew, the addition of daughters-in-law and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were also a source of great joy for her. For several years, she lovingly cared for her mother Muriel. In addition to her duties as “domestic engineer,” Ruth worked with her husband in the management of their family business. She enjoyed keeping a beautiful home, cooking, antiques and writing poems. She shared her passion for genealogy with her niece Jill Friese. Together with a group of close friends, she enjoyed playing canasta for over 30 years. She nurtured close friendships for decades with Mary, Charlotte, Marjorie, Shirley and Charlene. She persevered through many challenges in her life, and raised her sons to be the loving and dedicated husbands and fathers that they are. She was a life-long Catholic.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Paul, son Chuck, parents, and brothers Edmund (Leo), Robert and Joseph. Her survivors include her sons George and Robert, daughters-in-law Kathy and Theresa, grandchildren Charlie, Megan, Sarah, Christopher, Tammy, Amanda, Hollie, Jakob, Rachel, Mara and Anneliese, and ten great-grandchildren. A Rosary will be said for Ruth at 6 p.m. Feb. 2, 2017. The visitation will follow from 6:30 – 8 p.m., both at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, 913-856-7111. Her Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Feb. 3, 2017, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lenexa, with burial at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa.
