Dr. M. G. “Doc” “Jerry” Callahan, 92, of Gardner, passed away Jan. 30, 2017, at Olathe Medical Center.
Jerry was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Lowry City, Mo., to Marion Lesley and Vianna Elizabeth (Wallace) Callahan. He graduated high school in Pleasanton, Kan. Jerry served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946. He married Carolyn M. Tolin on June 21, 1974, in Topeka. Doc was a doctor of chiropractic for 50 years, and he also worked for Local #10 Iron Wokers for Bratton Steel Corporation for 30 years. He and Carolyn have lived in Gardner for the last 44 years. Doc was a member of the Antioch Community Baptist Church, Gardner and Wellsville American Legion, the Kansas Old Time Fiddler and Pickers, the Blackjack Historical Society and the Sacro Occipital Technique Organization. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Robert, Lee and Olin; sisters: Faye and Vivian and his first wife, Waneta M. Callahan. He is survived by his children: Anna and Rick Shain of Marysville, Kan., Sandra L. Callahan of Wellsville, KS, Marjorie L. and James W. Breeding of Wellsville, Howard Callahan of Kansas City, Kan., and Jerri Renee Callahan-Boyd of Kansas City, Kan.; step-children: Michelle Dawn Hollenbeck of Colorado Springs, Debra and Shane Young of Overbrook, Kan. and Lori and Mike Means of Lake Ozark, Mo.; siblings: Wallace Callahan of Arizona, Kate Holmes of Tulsa, Okla., Ola Mae Earnest of Pleasanton, Kan., and Mary Lou Cox of Blue Springs, Mo., 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-granddaughters, and his four-legged, best friend, Angel.
Celebration of Life will be 1 p.m. Feb. 4, 2017, at Antioch Community Baptist Church, 22668 S. Waverly Rd, Spring Hill.
