Gardner will begin its third class of Gardner You!, its Citizens Academy, in January 2017. Gardner You! is an interactive civic and public information program that focuses on educating residents and business owners about the city’s governmental process. Department directors and other city staff will host unique and informative sessions designed to give citizens hands-on experience in city government operations.
Gardner You! sessions will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at city hall. Session topics include finance and budget, business and economic development, and boards and commissions. The academy also involves a tour of city facilities on Friday, April 7.
The academy is open to Gardner residents and business owners who are at least 18 years old. Five of the available 20 slots are reserved for students at Gardner-Edgerton High School. Students must provide a recommendation from a teacher or other faculty member as to why the student should attend the Citizens Academy. Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
