East, ranked third in 6A, scored a touchdown and a two point conversion in the final 33 seconds to escape with the one point win in a game played at Shawnee Mission North.
“It was our best game of the year,” said Coach Marvin Diener, who guided the group to a 4-6 record. “The boys proved they have a team that deserved to play deep into the 6A playoffs. I was real proud of the effort.”
Closing their football careers at GEHS were seniors Hunter Skeens, Kolbee Finnell, Jared Highfill, Griffin Johns, Zach Bass, Cayden Simmons, Tanner Morrison, Michael Kittleson, Jesse May, Darius Landis, Ryan Frank, Conner Boyt, Jonas Pippitt, Sam Stranathan, Wyatt Dougherty, Ryan Shirley, and Jordan Flowers.
“I am particularly proud of the seniors who worked through the last two very tough seasons and led us to be a state contender. Our fans are back and Friday nights are fun for the school and community,” added Diener.
