Dylan Brenneman’s gold medal 5k title highlighted the Broncos effort at the 4A Regional meet at KC Turner last week. Brenneman outraced the field in a time of 16:52.
The Broncos boys qualified as a team for state with 94 points and a third place finish.
Besides Brenneman, Trey Mathis took 16th in 18:14; Noah Nemer (21st in 18:27); Michael Herman (25th in 18:46); Trevor North (31st in 18:57); Braxton Dixon (35th in 19:04) and Wyatt O’Leary (52nd in 19:55).
“The boys ran really smart races, being patient and attacked the field in the middle of the race,” said Coach Brent Smitheran. “In the end, we pulled past Topeka Hayden for the final team qualifying spot.”
On the girls’ side, Rylee Calderwood set the pace with a 5k 19th place time of 22:06.
Next comes the state 4A meet at Wimego this Saturday.
