McDonald receives teaching award
Gissel McDonald, Spring Hill High School chemistry teacher, has been awarded the 2016 American Chemical Society (ACS) Midwest Regional Award for Excellence in High School teaching.
She will be honored at a special ceremony on Nov. 17 in Manhattan.
The purpose of the award is to recognize, encourage, and stimulate outstanding teachers of high school chemistry in the ACS regions. McDonald’s ability to inspire her students was noticed by a visiting K-State Professor, during a KSU lecture series, who nominated her for the award.
“Gissel’s recognition is well deserved. She is a teacher that has a love for her subject and is always finding ways to meet the needs of all her learners. Students leave her classroom with
excitement and a deeper understanding of science,” said Marc Williams, SHHS principal.
McDonald is now entered into the national competition where she will compete with up to eight other regional award winners.
