Battling till the end, the Blazers JV and varsity soccer squads earned draws with visiting St. James Academy last week.
In JV action, both team displayed excellent defense and ended in a scoreless draw. Tyler Chafee earned the shut out in goal.
It was the same story in varsity action as both teams played to a 1-1 tie.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, GEHS pulled even on a cross pass from senior Colton Bryan to Marshall Hammett. It was Hammett’s first varsity goal.
That set the stage for a double overtime duel. With three minutes left in the second overtime, GEHS had an excellent scoring chance, but the shot was denied by the St. James goalie.
“Just an excellent save by the St. James goalie,” said Caoch Andy Weber. The tie gave us momentum boost. The kids played their hearts out and competed well through 100 minutes of action.”
