Trent Cochran’s eighth place medal highlighted the Blazer cross country effort at the Rim Rock Classic in Lawrence last weekend.
Cochran finished the 5k in 16:48 in the Crimson Division. The event was hosted by Lawrence Free State high school and the University of Kansas. Runners represented schools from Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Besides Cochran, Carson Hughes took 57th in 17:54, Joe Corbin clocked 18:50, Rodolfo Berrum, 19:12, Josh Frazier, 24:43, Taylor Chambers, 20:33, and Andrew Boline, 23:05.
The Blazers finished in the top 20 as a team in a field of 41 Crimson Division teams.
For the girls, Kelby Wilson took 62nd in a 5k time of 21:53 followed by Alyssa Farrens (22:25); Larissa Weidler (22:43); Jamie Gaither (24:04); Kaylee Pfeiffer (24: 43); and Bella Hinck (26:51). The girls competed against 265 runners from 36 different teams.
Notable finishes in the JV race were Will DeBolt (20:40) and Dylan Harding (22:38).
