Thomas C. Henley, 77 , El Dorado, Kansas passed away, Monday, August 8, 2016, at Vintage Place in El Dorado.
Tom’s was born on April 5, 1939, the son of Lester and Frances (Wells) Henley. He grew up in Spring Hill, Kan where he graduated with the class of 1957. Tom graduated from the Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia in 1961. He was a teacher and a coach in Madison, Kan. Later he completed his Master’s Degree in Counseling from Emporia State University. He was the school counselor in Goddard before joining the State of Kansas’ Department of Education in 1969 as a counseling consultant. Tom retired in 2003, after 34 years of service. In 2006, Tom was inducted into the Kansas Counseling Association Hall of Fame. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Sigma Tau Gamma. His lifelong passion was being a sports fan, coaching, playing sports or traveling to support the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs or the Kansas State Wildcats but his greatest passion of all was his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a nephew, Christopher Henley.
He is survived by his children, daughter, Kelly Henley Perry of El Dorado, a son, Kurtis Hart Henley of Topeka; grandchildren, Benjamin Byard of Kansas City, Katharine Byard of Dallas, Tex, Clayton Thomas Perry and Camron Perry both of El Dorado, Kole Thomas Henley and Kasie Henley both of Topeka; siblings, James (Molly) Henley of Morgan Hill, California and Judy (Bill) Uzzell of Spring Hill, Kansas; several nieces and nephews.
His family will gather with friends on Saturday, September 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kirby-Morris Reception Center, 224 W. Ash in El Dorado where his memorial service will be held. Tom will be laid to rest at a private family burial in Spring Hill Cemetery in Spring Hill, Kan.
